Hey gang, One of the hardest lessons I've learned over the years is that creative work isn't finished when I think it's finished. It's finished when I decide to share it. That's a surprisingly difficult line to cross. Every project begins with excitement. Then comes the messy middle—drafts, task overload, meetings, budget, second-guessing, and the nagging feeling that maybe one more tweak will finally make it "ready." Sometimes that's true. More often, it's just fear disguised as perfectionism. This month has been filled with projects in various stages of becoming. I've spent countless hours writing, recording, composing, teaching, planning, and preparing. Much of that work happened quietly, behind the scenes, which we've been discussing. This week, some of it left the studio.
And that's a good reminder that creativity isn't measured by how many ideas we have. It's measured by how many we are willing to finish. Finished work isn't always perfect. But finished work has the opportunity to encourage someone, teach someone, inspire someone, or simply remind another creative that they're not building alone. So if you've been waiting for the "perfect" moment to publish, perform, send, or share something you've been working on, consider this your nudge. Finish one thing. Then let it go do its job. Keep creating, Around Studio AB🎉 Design Your Creative Life This week I hosted the first Design Your Creative Life webinar. If you joined us, thank you. I genuinely appreciate you spending a few hours with me. I'd love to make the next workshop even better. If you attended, simply hit Reply and tell me one thing: What was the most valuable idea you took away? Or, if something was missing, I'd love to hear that too! 📚 A New Semester Begins On Monday my online Canvas courses officially open for another semester, after months of planning and investment. It's always exciting to watch a bundle of planning notes turn into something students can finally experience. I'm looking forward to seeing what they create this fall. |
